Being able to edit a Rooms recording does not prove that its full-quality original finished uploading. Descript can offer partial or cloud-backup files while recovery remains unresolved. Identify which file the sequence uses and what is still missing before approving a final interview. A playable backup is useful, but its purpose and limitations should remain visible in the production record.
Preserve the evidence needed for recovery
Record the participant, session, upload message and available filenames. Do not clear browser data while recoverable recordings remain pending. The current Rooms troubleshooting guide explicitly separates stalled uploads, partial files and recovery. Its guidance is for Descript; it does not establish an Imagild browser-storage mechanism.
Keep any available complete backup before changing the edit. Ask the relevant participant to follow the authorized recovery workflow themselves or provide approved access. A local browser recording and a cloud backup can have different quality and completeness; compare them rather than assuming one label establishes both.
Follow the current recovery and replacement path
Descript's recover-and-replace guide describes editing with partial or backup files and later replacing them when a full-quality recording becomes available. It identifies recovered material under Files > Recordings > the dated Room > Backups and calls for checking alignment after replacement.
Use a project copy and confirm the recovered participant and session before replacing anything. In the documented sequence workflow, inspect the existing track and the added recovered track so they are not accidentally both left audible. Keep the earlier version until the new file's completeness and placement are verified.
A hypothetical two-participant check
Suppose one participant's upload completes and the other's stalls. The proposed checklist records each source file, whether it is partial or backup, actual duration and the first and last required sentence. After recovery, compare the full candidate against those reference events and check simultaneous conversation points.
This is a proposed recovery test, not a successfully recovered interview. A longer file is not automatically the right session. A replacement that includes the ending but shifts the conversation out of sync is also incomplete as a delivery solution. Verify picture, voice and captions at both early and late events.
Approve completeness and quality separately
Accept when the chosen sources contain the required interview, their identities are confirmed and the edited sequence remains aligned. If only a lower-quality backup is available, document and approve that actual deliverable rather than calling it the recovered primary. Reject missing last sentences, double audio tracks or an unresolved upload hidden behind a playable preview.
Keep source versions, recovery observations and the final edit record. Imagild's Skills can develop accompanying visuals; recording upload, browser recovery and Descript sequence replacement are external workflows. The reliable result states what source was used and checks the whole interview, rather than interpreting “Start editing” as proof that every original is safe and complete.
