A round badge can crop more than the circle shown in a digital preview. The printed sheet may wrap around the badge edge, leaving a smaller front-facing area. Use the supplier's template, keep the face inside its safe region and proof the actual construction rather than relying on a decorative circular mockup.
Three boundaries that should not be confused
The outer artwork boundary, cutting boundary and visible front are not necessarily the same. A badge also curves away from the viewer. A name that fits inside a flat circle can become difficult to read near that curved edge. Do not treat the nominal badge diameter as a complete description of the print file.
Obtain the exact template for the product you intend to order. Two suppliers may construct similar-looking badges differently. Keep the template unchanged and use it as an overlay in a layout editor. A generated picture of a badge cannot replace these measurements.
Choose a portrait that survives the crop
A close face with tall hair, wide accessories or a raised hand needs more breathing room than a simple shoulder portrait. Reduce decorative objects before shrinking the face so far that recognition is lost. A single clear expression often reads better at badge size than a detailed scene.
Reinterpret the authorized reference person as a front-facing collectible portrait with a playful closed-mouth smile and a warm orange background. Keep the full hairstyle, chin and shoulders comfortably inside a centered composition. Reserve clear space around the subject. Do not draw a metal rim, pin mechanism or tiny text.
The model is being asked for portrait artwork, not an assembled badge. Apply the supplier's circle and wrap guides afterward. If the head is already clipped in the generated file, changing the print template cannot restore it.
Review with a simple proof sequence
- Place the approved portrait under the template without stretching it.
- Check the face inside the front-visible region, not just the outer cut.
- Keep the background extending through the required wrap area.
- Set any short name as separate editable text.
- Print a paper proof at the intended physical scale.
- Approve a physical sample before ordering a larger run.

What if the preview has transparent corners?
Transparent corners around a circular preview are not automatically wasted space. They may belong to the presentation format. For production, inspect the underlying artwork dimensions and required background coverage. Do not fill transparency blindly if the vendor specifically requests a shaped file; follow that template instead.

Is 4K always necessary for a small badge?
No. Required pixels depend on the actual print area and requested output resolution. More pixels do not correct an unsafe crop or unreadable name.
