A four-corner perspective correction can straighten a flat rectangular page, but it cannot fully flatten text printed on a curved book page. Use a supported document-dewarping workflow or improve the capture. Keep the original page image and verify the text afterward; asking an image generator to make the writing neat can replace the writing itself.
Diagnose the shape before choosing a tool
Look at the page boundary and several text baselines. A flat page photographed at an angle may have converging edges while each line remains approximately straight. A bound page that rises into the gutter can have visibly curved lines even after the outer corners form a rectangle.
If every straight object in the photograph bends similarly, investigate lens distortion as well. More than one defect can be present. Correcting the rectangular outline until it looks square does not establish that letters near the binding have their original proportions.
Preserve reading order and source evidence
Make a working copy and record the page number. Process one page first in external software that explicitly supports curved-text correction. ABBYY documents such a tool and notes that page dimensions may change afterward. Its support guidance also identifies cases where automatic text-line straightening creates an unwanted distortion, so compare enabled and disabled results.
Inspect a long line near the gutter, another near the outer edge and any illustration or ruled table. Letter heights, spaces and line spacing should remain coherent. OCR output is a separate interpretation: compare names, punctuation, numbers and paragraph order with the photographed page rather than assuming that a searchable PDF is accurate.
A hypothetical family recipe book
Imagine a handwritten recipe notebook with a curved page beside a tight binding. Corner correction makes the sheet rectangular but leaves the ingredients bending upward. A document-dewarping test straightens the lines while narrowing several letters near the fold. The owner keeps the original and chooses a gentler result, then manually verifies the quantities.
This is a hypothetical review, not a demonstrated recovery. A readable guessed word or quantity is particularly risky because it looks authoritative. Mark uncertain text instead of silently reconstructing it through image generation.
Make a better source when possible
Photograph one page at a time with the camera facing the page rather than the center of the open book. Support the book comfortably without forcing a fragile binding flat. Keep even light across the gutter and avoid a hand shadow over the text. If conservation matters, follow the collection owner's handling instructions.
Use the accepted page photograph in Imagild only for an appropriate visual project, such as a collage that preserves a clearly identified real document panel. A creative Skill is not a substitute for archival scanning or verified transcription.
Acceptance requires more than straight lines
Check that all intended content remains, the page orientation is correct, and no text was cropped after its dimensions changed. Keep an original-image copy beside any corrected or OCR version. If flattening visibly stretches words or damages an illustration, reduce the correction or use a new capture. A straighter-looking page with altered information is not a successful document delivery.
