Borderless printing can enlarge the image slightly beyond the paper edges to avoid an unprinted border. That expansion may crop outer content even when the file has the correct aspect ratio. Test the driver's supported expansion controls and protect essential edge details. This differs from a whole page printing at the wrong measured scale.
Confirm the symptom is edge loss
Compare the full image with the print. Note whether missing content is concentrated around all outer edges while the paper remains fully covered. Check that the source was not already cropped and that its aspect ratio matches the intended paper.
If the entire artwork is a noticeably different physical size on a larger sheet, investigate page scaling separately. If only one side is cut off, also check positioning and printable-area settings. Do not assume every crop is caused by borderless expansion.
Use an expendable edge target
Make a test copy with visible marks near the outer edge and farther inside, plus a central reference feature. Print it using the same paper, borderless mode and orientation planned for the artwork. Measure or record which marks disappear.
Epson documents an Expansion control for supported borderless printing. Availability and behavior depend on the printer, media and size. Reduce or change it only as supported, then inspect whether an unwanted white edge appears. A universal millimeter margin cannot describe every device's overspray and feed variation.
A hypothetical travel postcard
Imagine a landscape postcard with a small signature near the right edge. The borderless print covers the paper but trims the signature. The creator compares an edge target, tests a supported expansion setting and moves the signature to a safer position in a separate layout copy.
This is a planning example. The accepted combination must keep the signature and provide the intended edge coverage. It does not prove that every later sheet will be cut or fed identically.
Choose the practical delivery route
If exact edge content matters, consider a print with margins followed by agreed trimming, or a supplier workflow with a verified template. Borderless home printing is not automatically the right route for measured production artwork. Keep backgrounds extensible and important faces or text safely inside the observed usable region.
Use Imagild for a suitable photo or artwork source, then handle printer-specific layout externally. Extending an image creatively can create background space, but inspect it and do not use generated extensions to claim preservation of the original photograph.
Acceptance
Approve a real test at the planned paper and settings. Require essential content intact, intended full coverage and no unexpected aspect distortion. Save the settings and layout version. A correctly sized source can still lose edges through borderless expansion; the solution is an output-aware composition, not simply increasing the image's pixel dimensions.
