Moving a person with an AI-assisted cutout tool does not establish what was behind them. The newly exposed area may be filled convincingly, but an original photograph cannot prove details that the person completely hid. Separate the subject's movement from the background's reconstruction, especially when the image is meant to describe a real place or event accurately.
Two jobs happen when the subject moves
First, the tool isolates and repositions the person. Second, the old footprint has to be filled or revealed. Canva distinguishes Magic Grab, which moves an isolated subject while keeping a background, from Background Remover, which removes the background. These are Canva features, not named controls being promised in Imagild.
Keeping a background does not certify every newly visible pixel as original evidence. Some surrounding pixels were photographed; the central area hidden behind a body may not have been. A visually smooth continuation can still be a newly generated interpretation.
Make an exposure map
| Region | Evidence available | Permitted treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Originally visible wall | Present in the source | Preserve where possible |
| Wall hidden behind the person | Not visible in that source | Use a verified clean plate or mark as inferred |
| New subject location | Destination visible, new contact required | Inspect scale, overlap and shadow |
| Unknown sign or doorway | No verified detail | Do not present a guess as recovered fact |
This is a reader planning sheet. Draw or describe the real regions for your own file. It is particularly useful when a small subject move exposes a large window, shelf, or sign that the original image never showed.
Choose a real plate when accuracy matters
Look for another photograph of the same scene without the obstruction, captured from a compatible viewpoint. Confirm that the location, arrangement, and relevant time match. A different room that looks similar is not a clean plate for the original room. If no such evidence exists, decide whether an illustrative fill is acceptable for the project.
For a fictional campaign scene, a brief might permit “continue the plain wall in the exposed area without introducing new doors, text, or objects.” That is a constrained invention. For a property description, documentary record, or other fact-sensitive image, an invented opening or removed fixed feature can mislead viewers. Change the composition or obtain suitable source material rather than presenting a guess as restoration.
Inspect the move and the fill independently
At the old position, look for repeated texture, leftover outlines, partial shadows, and fabricated structural details. At the new position, check scale, feet, occlusion, and contact with the floor. A perfect fill cannot rescue a person who now floats; a convincing new pose cannot establish the truth of the revealed background.
When preparing an Imagild edit, describe which regions must remain source-faithful and which may be interpreted. Keep the untouched photograph and any authentic clean plate. In review, state whether the result reveals photographed evidence or supplies a creative continuation. The distinction remains useful even when nobody can spot the generated area by eye.
