A slip edit changes the source frames shown inside a clip while preserving that clip’s timeline start, end and duration. It is useful when the slot is already aligned with music but the chosen source window misses the action. The source must contain the alternative frames; the edit cannot invent a later gesture or fit an unlimited event into a short slot.
Separate the slot from the source window
Adobe’s slip-edit documentation describes adjusting source in and out points without changing a clip’s timeline position or duration. Record both coordinate systems before editing. A slot at sequence seconds six through nine can display source seconds two through five or another supported three-second range.
Define the action that must appear, including its beginning and completion. A cup-lift shot may need the hand reaching, the lift and the cup settling. A later window that shows only the final cup position may satisfy a screenshot comparison while losing the demonstration.
Check the source’s available earlier and later frames. Both boundaries must move by the same amount to preserve duration. If the desired source range extends beyond the media, reduce the shift or reconsider the slot length. Moving the timeline clip itself would change the beat alignment and solve a different problem.
Test a fixed three-second slot
This proposed test places a three-second clip between approved music markers. Its initial window shows the hand approaching the cup; a later source interval contains the lift. In a saved copy, perform a slip toward that interval and record the resulting source and sequence boundaries.
- Write down the slot’s start, end and duration.
- Record the current source in and out points.
- Locate the needed action in the full source.
- Slip both source boundaries by the chosen equal amount.
- Confirm that the slot, music markers and adjacent cuts remain in their planned places.
Play the full three-second result instead of approving one frame. Check the entry and exit for a cut mid-gesture. If the complete action lasts longer than the slot, identify that conflict explicitly. A slip can choose which frames are visible but cannot compress their natural duration by itself.
Accept the new action and fixed timing
The edit passes when the source window changes as intended, the timeline slot remains unchanged and the required action is complete enough for the brief. Review any linked audio according to the current tool’s behavior and the approved sound plan. Do not assume a picture change leaves every associated sound unchanged.
This example is a reproducible plan rather than a completed software measurement. Imagild Skills can provide source visuals for external editing. Keep the old and new source ranges alongside the unchanged slot in the change note. If the next request is to move the entire middle shot while preserving its source action, that is a slide-edit task with neighboring compensation and different handle checks.
