A slide edit can move a middle clip’s timeline slot while keeping that clip’s duration and source in and out points unchanged. The neighboring clips are trimmed to compensate. It suits a three-shot passage whose total length must stay fixed, provided the intended boundaries and available source handles support the move. It is not a universal way to reposition any clip without consequences.
Record three clips and the available handles
Adobe’s slide-edit documentation explains moving a clip while adjusting adjacent clips. Confirm the three clips are arranged for the supported operation. Gaps, transitions, linked components and other participating tracks require inspection; do not assume that a bare three-clip demonstration covers every project arrangement.
List each clip’s source in and out points separately from its timeline start and end. Check the left neighbor has enough later source material for an extension and the right neighbor can support the planned new entry. For a move in the opposite direction, evaluate the opposite boundaries. Available source handles constrain the requested distance.
The middle clip must keep its source window. If its action changes while its slot stays fixed, that resembles a slip edit rather than the intended slide. Specify which result is wanted before choosing the tool.
Compare a twelve-frame move across three columns
This repeatable plan uses a twelve-second, 24-fps sequence with adjacent shots A, B and C. B initially occupies seconds four through eight. Slide B twelve frames later, assuming the neighboring source ranges permit the move. Record these expected relationships rather than treating them as completed measurements:
| Item | Source window | Timeline slot | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Out extends twelve frames | Start unchanged, end later | Gains twelve frames |
| B | In and out unchanged | Start and end later | Unchanged |
| C | In advances twelve frames | Start later, final end unchanged | Loses twelve frames |
| Sequence | Review all required events | Final end unchanged | Twelve seconds |
Save a copy, record original values, perform the supported slide and fill in actual values for comparison. Inspect the extra frames of A and the new opening of C. If the source boundaries prevent the planned move, reduce it or choose another edit; do not manufacture a passing record by silently changing B’s action.
Accept the slot movement and neighboring content
The operation passes when B’s slot moves as intended, its source interval remains intact, the neighbors compensate within valid source material and the sequence keeps its approved length. Play both new boundaries with sound. Required events in A or C can be lost even when every duration matches the table.
This example has not been executed as a reported Premiere test. Imagild Skills can prepare source visuals for the external timeline. Keep the source-window and slot comparison in the handoff, including any handle limit. A later request to reveal a different action inside B while leaving its slot fixed should use a separate slip-edit diagnosis.
