When a video clip moves but its matching sound stays behind, inspect the timeline’s link relationship and selection behavior before changing audio speed. A clip-instance movement error differs from gradual recording drift. First establish which sound belongs to that picture; an approved narration or music bed should not be linked merely because it overlaps the clip.
Identify the corresponding instances
Adobe’s linking documentation explains treating linked timeline video and audio as a unit. The timeline association does not rewrite the original source files. Observe the current linked-selection controls as well as the link itself, because selecting or moving an individual component can produce different behavior.
Find the source name, time range and distinctive synchronization cue for the intended pair. For a clap, compare the hand-contact frame with the sound transient. If two takes share a similar filename, verify actual content before linking. Linking unrelated sound creates a convenient movement relationship without establishing correct synchronization.
Check whether the clip was deliberately separated for a sound edit. Restore a link only after deciding that the two instances should now move together. Keep an independently approved narration, music track or room-tone bed outside that pair unless its timing requirements specifically call for association.
Move a saved sample by two seconds
This proposed test uses a short linked picture-and-clap sample in a saved sequence copy. Record both timeline start positions, move the intended pair two seconds later, and compare the new positions and cue. The plan is repeatable; it does not report an already completed application test.
- Record the video and corresponding audio’s source and timeline positions.
- Inspect the current link and linked-selection state.
- Select the pair through the documented route and move it together.
- Confirm that both starts shift by the same amount.
- Play across the clap and check that their relative cue remains intact.
If only one component moves, undo that test before trying a documented relinking action. If both move together but the clap remains wrong, the original alignment was already incorrect; changing the link will not repair it. Address the demonstrated offset separately, keeping source timing and any approved narrative relationship clear.
Confirm movement rather than assume sync
Acceptance requires the intended pair to remain associated during the chosen editing operation and to retain its verified alignment. Check an additional cue later in the clip to distinguish one fixed offset from accumulating drift. Gradual drift calls for a different diagnosis from a single instance left behind during a move.
Save the sequence copy and note which components were deliberately independent. Imagild Skills can provide visuals for an external sequence, while Premiere controls these timeline links. The resulting handoff should say which audio follows which picture and which tracks retain their own timing. A link is an editing relationship, not evidence that every sound in a project is correctly synchronized.
