Do not make a handmade ceramic piece perfectly symmetrical merely because an AI editor prefers a regular outline. An uneven rim, glaze variation or hand-formed profile may be part of the item buyers will receive. Separate photographic distractions from physical characteristics, and keep a faithful image of the actual piece in the listing.
Name which irregularities belong to the object
Compare the photograph with the ceramic itself. Record the rim shape, handle position and distinctive glaze marks. A dust speck on the photography table is different from a small intentional surface texture. A chipped edge is different again: when condition matters, do not silently repair the item in the image.
If you sell one specific piece, preserve its recognizable features. If the listing covers made-to-order pieces that vary, explain the variation with suitable real examples. A single normalized concept cannot demonstrate the shape of every handmade item.
Establish the permitted edit boundary
Etsy provides listing-image requirements and product-photography guidance. Check the applicable current rules for your listing type rather than assuming that an attractive generated mockup always qualifies. The practical editing boundary is straightforward: improve the photograph's presentation without changing the item represented.
Use a duplicate, and consider a background-only correction that retains the object's recorded pixels. In Imagild, choose an available restrained workflow and review its change scope. A creative Skill can reinterpret the piece as artwork, but that interpretation should not replace factual product evidence.
A hypothetical hand-built mug
Imagine a mug whose handle sits slightly lower on one side and whose glaze forms three recognizable spots. A generated cleanup centers the handle and smooths away two spots. It looks tidy but depicts a different object. The maker rejects it and instead removes a distraction on the table outside the mug.
This is a planning example, not a reviewed generation. An acceptance sheet can place the original, edited view and a close detail together. Require agreement on the actual handle and glaze, rather than using a general score for beauty.
Improve capture before altering shape
Rotate the piece or adjust the camera so buyers can understand its form. Include another angle and a detail photograph when the irregularity is hard to interpret. Consistent light can reveal the surface without exaggerating every indentation. Do not claim measured dimensions from a generated perspective; provide verified measurements separately.
Acceptance and publication
Inspect the outline, rim, handle and distinctive surface marks at useful size. A buyer should still be able to recognize the photographed item on arrival. Save the source, approved revision and item identifier together. Keep creative promotional illustrations clearly separated from the listing evidence, and disclose meaningful interpretation where relevant. The goal is a clear view of the handmade piece, not a machine-perfect substitute.
