A torn Cricut Foil Transfer Sheet points to the physical pressure-transfer setup, not to a missing print-finishing mask. Check the selected Operation, installed tip, base material and tape placement. This system should not be confused with heat foil or toner-reactive foil. The official troubleshooting page currently specifies Design Space for Desktop rather than mobile.
Match the tip to the selected operation
Read the tip requested by Design Space and compare it with the actual installed tool. The software sends pressure commands based on the chosen Operation. Changing the tip without changing the corresponding operation can therefore damage the sheet or base material. Return to the Canvas to correct the operation when a different tip is required.
Check the base-material setting separately. A photo card made from cardstock should not quietly use an unrelated material preset. The correct tip is necessary but does not prove that pressure, stock or setup are suitable. Record all three before increasing force to obtain a more visible metallic line.
Keep the foil supported and the path clear
Inspect whether the sheet is smooth, taut and secured as documented. Tape should hold the foil without crossing the design area. If the tool travels across tape, the result can tear rather than transfer. Wrinkles or movement can also disturb the line position.
For an Explore, Maker or Venture workflow, follow that machine section; the Joy section has its own conditions. If the right tip and material still tear the foil, the cited guide describes a lower-pressure option. Do not treat this as permission to apply any pressure value to every machine or foil product.
Make a short-line sample
This is a reproducible test plan, not a tested metallic card. Preserve the approved photo and try a small line, a turn and a short piece of lettering on compatible spare stock. Keep tape outside the tool path and record the operation, tip, material and pressure choice.
Examine foil continuity, tearing and damage to the base. Change one supported setup variable at a time. A darker or thicker printed gold color will not repair a mechanically ripped transfer sheet. If the project also has a Cut step, follow the software prompt to remove foil before cutting; leaving it in place can create further tearing.
Acceptance before adding the portrait
Require continuous intended foil marks, an intact base and the planned position relative to the card. A shiny mockup is not evidence that the physical process works. Keep a separate sample record before using valuable printed portraits, and do not describe an untested finish as manufactured successfully.
Imagild can help create the image artwork. Tool pressure, sheet fastening and operation selection belong to the external Cricut process. For supplier foil or spot varnish, use that supplier's different prepress requirements; this pressure-transfer diagnosis does not replace a production finish specification.
