A card fold line can be cut through when Design Space assigns it a cutting operation instead of a scoring operation. A dotted-looking line on the canvas is not enough to establish which tool will run. Check the selected object's Operation and the actual machine's scoring support before making another card.
Confirm the supported machine and tool
The linked Cricut procedure is specifically for Cricut Joy 2 and its Scoring Tool. It describes choosing Operation > Score, then attaching the score line to the cut object. Do not apply that tool-loading procedure to an original Joy or assume that all Cricut machines use the same scoring accessory.
Record the machine model, tool and cardstock specification. Open the editable project and identify the fold-line object separately from decorative marks and the card outline. The expected outcome is a pressed fold guide, while the outside card shape may still be cut. A line's color or position alone cannot distinguish those purposes.
Inspect Operation before mat placement
Select the intended fold line and inspect its actual Operation. For the supported Joy 2 workflow, change the line to Score if that is the intended task. Keep the outer card object's cutting task distinct. Do not convert every line at once; decoration, perforation and outlines may have different purposes.
Select the score line and its cut object, then use Attach as the official procedure describes. In Make preview, check that they remain together in the expected position. Correct canvas alignment is weak evidence if the preparation stage sends the fold line to a different placement on the mat.
Make one spare-stock operation test
This is a reproducible test plan, not a completed machine test. Use spare compatible cardstock without a valuable photograph attached. Build a simple card outline and one fold line, record their assigned operations, and inspect the preparation preview before running the job.
Follow the machine's onscreen tool-change prompts and the Joy 2 procedure for the actual supported tools. Record which tool is requested for each task. A scoring intention in a project note does not override an incorrect cutting assignment in the file. Stop and correct an unexpected task rather than sacrifice a finished photo card as a diagnostic sample.
After unloading, examine the fold line and outside boundary separately. The card should remain intact along the fold guide, with a suitable impression for folding. A shallow impression is a different issue from a blade cutting the line through; keep the two observations distinct so that the next adjustment addresses the actual failure.
Accept the fold before adding the photograph
For a hypothetical greeting-card run, approve the spare-stock sample first, then place the accepted photo artwork in the verified layout. This planning example has not been executed. It does not establish compatibility for an unlisted tool or guarantee fold quality on another paper weight.
Accept when the intended score task, tool prompts, placement and physical fold agree. Retain an editable copy and the material record. Imagild can supply the photo treatment, while Design Space and the supported Cricut hardware control scoring and cutting. Preparing a visible fold mark in a bitmap does not configure a machine operation.
