A Cricut pen can draw both edges of a regular font because the text is represented as outlined letter shapes. If you want single-line writing, select a font that actually provides a Writing style and inspect the resulting task. Changing a solid font's color or reducing its size does not establish a single-line path.
Distinguish type appearance from pen paths
Cricut's official writing tutorial describes selecting the text and choosing Writing from the Style control. It also provides a Writing filter in the font panel. This applies to fonts with that capability; it does not mean every installed font or every language has a matching writing version.
Keep the exact approved name as editable text during diagnosis. Record font family, style, size and machine operation. A font that looks elegant when filled can produce two visible outlines with a pen. That is a different problem from letters being too small, misspelled or poorly spaced on the card.
Select a genuine Writing option
In the documented Design Space route, select the text and inspect the Style dropdown. If the current family lacks Writing, open the font panel and use its Writing filter to find supported options. Compare the actual typed name in the chosen style rather than accepting the preview of an unrelated sample word.
Check every required character, including accents or Chinese characters when present. A missing glyph is not solved by choosing an English writing font. Keep the name's spelling and character shape as acceptance conditions. Do not ask an image generator to bake the name into a picture as a substitute for an inspectable pen task.
Compare a short name on spare stock
This is a reproducible test plan, not a completed pen test. Make two small labeled examples on compatible spare card material: the existing outline-producing choice and an available Writing-style choice. Hold the intended text and useful size constant so the comparison shows path behavior rather than an unrelated layout change.
Inspect the actual pen operation and attach the writing to its intended card object when placement is required. Check the preparation preview for the position. Use the supported pen and follow the machine's prompts. A screenshot that appears single-lined is not the final evidence that the physical stroke has the desired appearance.
Compare the drawn letters for single-line intent, legibility, correct characters and unwanted double outlines. Pen width and paper can still affect the result, so record them with the sample. If small counters fill in, treat that as a material or scale observation rather than proof that Writing was not selected.
Accept the name and placement together
For a hypothetical photo greeting card, the photograph is prepared separately and the approved name is drawn afterward. The first spare-stock sample settles the pen behavior before the finished card is used. This planning example has not been run and does not promise a Writing font for every script.
Accept when the actual name is correct, its strokes meet the intended writing style, and its placement avoids the photo and fold. Save the editable text and tool record. Imagild can prepare the photo treatment, while Design Space controls font style and machine paths. A visually correct bitmap title is not the same deliverable as pen-ready writing.
