Do not remove every visible fold from a clothing product photograph. Distinguish temporary storage wrinkles from designed pleats, gathers, seams and the garment's natural drape. Prepare the real item first, then limit retouching to agreed distractions. A smoother image can misrepresent the construction or apparent fit of the clothing.
Classify the line before editing it
Ask whether the fold is part of the design, caused by the pose, or left by packaging. Compare the physical garment, another angle and a close detail photograph. A repeated row of pleats running into a waistband should not be treated like one diagonal crease created by storage.
Write a small protected-feature list: pleat count or spacing where visible, seam position, fabric texture and silhouette. You do not need to make every small undulation a specification, but you do need a reason before removing a feature that explains the product's construction.
Prepare the item rather than generating it flat
Shopify's clothing-photography guide recommends inspecting and preparing clothing before capture, including removing unwanted wrinkles. Follow the garment's care instructions for any steaming or pressing. The goal is presentation of the actual piece, not flattening its designed structure to match a generic polished example.
After preparation, photograph the item again with useful side light and an angle that shows its shape. Preserve a detail source for textured fabrics. Editing an old image can remain an option, but a clear new capture may remove the ambiguity more efficiently.
A hypothetical pleated-skirt review
Imagine a pleated skirt with one horizontal packaging crease across the front. A broad smoothing request removes that crease but also turns the vertical pleats into an almost flat panel. The seller rejects it. A restricted local repair is reviewed against the original, checking that the vertical structure continues on both sides of the corrected area.
This is a hypothetical acceptance exercise, not a tested result. The seller may prefer a new photograph after suitable pressing. Even a localized edit fails if it changes the hem, waistband or number of visible folds in a way that alters the apparent product.
Keep the modification narrow and reversible
Use a duplicate and a small region. Compare texture at the same scale before and after the edit, and inspect where the region meets a seam or patterned fabric. Do not conceal pilling, wear or damage on a used item when those conditions matter to the sale.
In Imagild, check the current Photo Editor's local controls before applying a correction. A full-image style transformation is better suited to a clearly identified creative concept than to proving the real construction of a listing garment. Complete exact source-based retouching externally if the available operation cannot protect the necessary detail.
Accept the actual garment, not maximum smoothness
The result should remove the declared temporary distraction while keeping the designed folds, material and silhouette believable. View it at both listing size and full resolution. Save the source and revision note with the SKU. If a fold's role is uncertain, ask the maker or compare the item; an attractive output is not evidence that the removed structure was unnecessary.
