Design for the bookmark's use, not only its full flat preview. Part of the design will sit inside a book. The visible end, reading direction and narrow shape determine whether the image and title remain useful.
Obtain the actual template
Ask the supplier for dimensions, safe areas and any ribbon hole or rounded-corner restrictions. Decide which end protrudes from the book. Keep important facial features and short readable text away from trim and physical holes.
Explore an appropriate currently available format in Imagild's Fan Merch workspace. If the exact bookmark format is not listed, create supporting artwork through a suitable Skill and finish on the supplier template externally. Do not treat a different preset's dimensions as the bookmark specification.
Compose for the narrow shape
A fictional fan bookmark uses a single portrait below a simple top tab. The tab carries an approved small symbol so it remains recognizable when the portrait is inside the book. A wide group photograph squeezed into the strip would make every face too small.
Check image permissions and avoid implying official merchandise if it is not authorized. Add exact names and event wording in a proofread layout step. Generated lettering is not a reliable production source.
Test front, back and use
Print a paper proof at actual size. Put it inside a book, turn it over and check both orientations. Inspect whether a reverse-side pattern clashes with the front or whether a hole cuts through the title.
Obtain supplier feedback before production. Save the text-free art, front and back layout, and a marked proof. A digital image that looks strong at large size can become unreadable on a narrow physical strip, so actual-size review is essential.
