In After Effects, a layer marked as a Guide Layer can appear while you work in its composition but be omitted from output or a containing composition. Check that status before rebuilding missing labels or assuming the image failed to import. Decide whether each element is a private production reference or an actual graphic that the audience must see.
Classify the missing element by purpose
A motion reference, temporary frame number, or approval arrow can be useful during editing without belonging in the final film. A delivery title or required attribution has a different role. Write that purpose beside the layer name so that another editor does not turn every hidden note into visible artwork or accidentally leave an important title as a production guide.
Adobe documents Guide Layers as reference elements, with a visible icon in the timeline. The default output excludes them. The top-level composition's render settings can choose whether visible guide layers are included, while guide layers inside a nested composition are not shown in its containing composition. These are scope rules, not a media corruption diagnosis.
Check the composition that owns the layer
Open the source composition containing the missing element and inspect its layer status. Then open the parent composition separately. Do not treat visibility in the source tab as proof that the same item must appear in the parent. Keep the current render queue settings with the comparison, because a template can change output behavior without changing the layer's artwork.
Use ordinary rendered layers for elements required in the final picture, after their wording and placement are approved. Retain temporary reference notes in a clearly designated production layer or separate review composition. Avoid using an output setting as an unexplained workaround that exposes every internal comment at once.
A proposed label-versus-guide comparison
This test has not been executed in a supplied project. Duplicate a small composition and add two clearly different marks: one ordinary audience-facing title and one temporary reference label set as a Guide Layer. Inspect the source composition, a containing composition, and a short render using the chosen top-level guide setting.
Record exactly where each mark appears. The acceptance criterion is not that both always remain visible. It is that the public title survives the intended delivery while the private reference follows its documented review policy. Compare a real downloaded render rather than only an editor screenshot.
Keep review and delivery copies distinguishable
Name review outputs that intentionally contain notes, and inspect the final copy for accidental production text. When supplying a reference image or video to a generation workflow, use the approved clean asset unless annotations are intentionally required and supported. A guide-layer flag in an editing project has no effect on text already burned into exported pixels.
This external After Effects procedure can prepare or review assets for an Imagild film. It does not imply that Imagild reads AE layer flags or provides editable AE project export. Preserve the project and verify the actual viewing file before saying that all required graphics are present.
